UM Canterbury Preschool

General Information

The University of Miami Canterbury Preschool has two campuses: Medical Campus, located in the heart of Downtown Miami and Gables Campus, located on the main University of Miami campus in Coral Gables. Both campuses are centrally located to serve the needs of the families at UM Canterbury Preschool.

Mission and Philosophy

UM Canterbury Preschool is a non-profit campus children's center committed to providing high quality care and excellent early childhood educational programs for young children aged 2 months to 5 years. UM Canterbury Preschool believes that campus childcare should be an integral part of higher education systems. A campus childcare program should also serve as a resource in meeting the educational research and service needs of the university and the community. Childcare and developmentally appropriate practices are inseparable in a quality program for young children. A campus childcare program serves as a model and sets standards for the community regarding quality care for children in an educational setting.

In order to fulfill its mission and philosophy, UM Canterbury Preschool strives to:

Serve as a model to the community, to early education specialists, to parents and to policy makers by being accredited by the National Association For the Education of Young Children and APPLE.
Be responsible and fair employer by hiring professional staff (knowledgeable, committed and experienced teachers, assistants and committed administrators).
Be a professional organization by providing consultation and referrals to appropriate social or educational resources.
Be a developmentally appropriate program by providing an environment that is safe, stimulating, secure and inclusive; involving parents in their child's education in evaluating children's developmental progress by providing a multicultural and anit-bias programming.
Serve the UM community by providing high quality early childhood care and education.
